Emad Rakha

Professor of Breast Pathology and Honorary Consultant Pathologist

Dr Rakha is a Professor of Breast Pathology and Honorary Consultant Pathologist at the University of Nottingham (UoN) and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Nottingham, UK.  He also works as senior consultant Hamad General Hospital in Qatar. Prof Rakha is medically qualified and gained master (MSc pathology) and MD in Pathology (by examination), PhD in molecular pathology (Breast cancer) from UoN and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists by examination. Emad is the leading member of the multi-disciplinary Nottingham Breast Research Group at UoN, co-director of the PathLAKE and co-chair and co-chair of the UK Interpretative EQA Breast Pathology Scheme. Dr Rakha published more than 540 publications in peer reviewed journals, coauthored 40 book chapters in addition to 10 chapter in the latest 5th ed of the WHO Blue book. He is ranked as the 4th staff among the whole UoN based on the Worldwide Scientists Ranking. He is the editor of the Rakha and Ellis Breast Pathology Textbook to be published with Cambridge publisher in 2025.  Emad runs the national and international referral service of breast pathology consultation cases in Nottingham with over 350 referral cases per year. He is the senior author of the UK HER2 guidelines and authored the UK RCPATH breast pathology guidelines. He was awarded last year the BCRF-Larry Norton Award for Excellence in Breast Pathology at the International Society of Breast Pathology meeting at the USCAP meeting in Baltimore. During his career he gained over £10 million grants to promote digital pathology and artificial intelligence in pathology in the UK.
