Before joining M42, Dr. Macário spent more than two decades at the University Hospital of Coimbra, where he served as Medical Coordinator of the Kidney Transplant Unit. His leadership introduced advanced clinical protocols and a new organizational model that set national benchmarks in renal transplantation. Past President, Honorary Member of the Portuguese Society of Transplantation (2010-2016). Head of the Portuguese Registry of Dialysis and Transplantation (2007-2017). Founding member, European Board of Transplantation Medicine. Since joining Diaverum in 2001, he has been instrumental in developing and leading integrated, value-based dialysis care programs across 24 countries. Appointed Chief Medical Officer in 2019, he has driven global clinical governance and AI and digital transformation in care delivery.
A lifelong learner, Dr. Macário completed the Managing Health Care Delivery program at Harvard Business School Executive Education, strengthening his foundation in healthcare management and strategic innovation.
