A random (spot) urine calcium test (ideally paired with creatinine as a calcium-to-creatinine ratio; NRL Test Code: 11562) serves as a preliminary screening tool. It helps assess kidney stone risk (hypercalciuria), evaluate calcium metabolism disorders, and aid in differential diagnoses for abnormal serum calcium levels, e.g. hyperparathyroidism.

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.
Ensure the sample is received at NRL within 24 hours of collection. If this is not possible, samples should be stored and transported frozen (-20°C)
