The predominant clinical use for SPE is the detection of monoclonal gammopathies. These are usually found in association with hematologic neoplasms, especially multiple myeloma. They also occur in other benign and malignant conditions. Any abnormal protein detected by SPE should be confirmed and identified by immunofixation (Test code: 43520)
