Measures porphyrins in stool. Useful in hereditary coproporphyria and other variants.

Specimen Type

Volume

Entire collection (48, 72, or 96 hour). 24-Hour collection is adequate if the collection volume is approximately 100 g. Length of collection period is required. Specimens smaller than 100 g may not provide interpretable results. Include a list of medications the patient is currently taking.

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.
