Liver function tests (hepatic function) screen for liver injury, evaluate synthetic capacity, and monitor disease progression, using key markers like ALT, albumin, and bilirubin. Despite their name, most components measure cellular damage or biliary tract issues rather than direct organ function.

The panel contains ALT, AST, Total Bilirubin, ALP and Albumin.

Results are reported in SI Units (U/L, g/L or micromoles/L)

Serum (SST; Gold Top or plain serum; Red Top) - Preferred Lithium Heparin Plasma (Green Top) - acceptable
