24-hour urine test for both cortisone and cortisol.

Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.

Collection

Instruct the patient to void at 8 AM and discard the specimen. Then collect all urine including the final specimen voided at the end of the 24 Hr. period (ie, 8 AM the next morning) in a plastic bottle containing 1 g boric acid per liter of urine. Mix well. Screw the lid on securely. HCl is also an acceptable preservative. Refrigerate during collection and store refrigerated. The addition of preservative or refrigeration must occur within 4 hours of completion of the collection.
