Simultaneous copper testing in serum and red blood cells.

Specimen Type

Packed Red Blood Cells and Plasma

Volume

3 mL each plasma and packed RBCs. Both packed cells and plasma are required.

Royal blue-top (EDTA) metal-free tube

Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.

Collection

Both packed cells and plasma are required. Separate before shipping. Failure to separate may cause rejection due to Haemolysis of red cells and contamination of the plasma. Transfer RBCs and plasma into separate plastic, acid-washed, or trace metal-free tubes. Specimen must be received at the test facility within five days of collection.
