Remarks

Test Includes: Platelet count, PT and aPTT, TT. Patient Preparation: Ideally, the patient should not be on anticoagulant therapy. Avoid warfarin (Coumadin®) therapy for two weeks prior to the test and heparin, direct Xa, and thrombin inhibitor therapies for about three days prior to testing.

Test Overview

Panel of tests (e.g., PT, aPTT, platelet function) to evaluate causes of abnormal bleeding. Useful in pre-surgical screening or unexplained bruising.

Specimen Type

Whole Blood AND Frozen Plasma

Volume

5 mL EDTA whole blood, one tube citrated whole blood (unopened), AND 2 mL citrated plasma, FROZEN  

Specimen Container

Lavender-top (EDTA) tube, and frozen Plasma aliquoted from blue-top (sodium citrate) tube

Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.

Collection

This test does not require any special collection or pre-analytical handling. Follow routine specimen collection protocols.
