Test Overview

Involves measuring 11-deoxycortisol levels at two different time points, often before and after an ACTH stimulation test. It helps evaluate adrenal gland function and diagnose conditions affecting steroid biosynthesis, such as enzyme deficiencies or adrenal insufficiency

Serum (preferred) or Plasma

Volume

0.5 mL (each specimen) - submit two tubes, One vial labelled as baseline and one labelled as post metyraphone.

Red-top tube, gel-barrier tube, lavender-top (EDTA) tube, or green-top (heparin) tube

Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.
