Cause for Rejection: Isolate nonviable, yeast isolate other than Candida species (e.g., Cryptococcus species), nonyeast isolate (e.g., bacteria or mould), unlabeled specimen or name discrepancy between specimen and request label.

Evaluates effectiveness of amphotericin B against yeast isolates. Guides treatment for severe fungal infections.

Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.

Collection

Candida species derived from cultured clinical specimen. Send pure culture on maintenance media. Maintain subculture at submitting laboratory. Organism must be actively growing in pure culture. Do not submit mixed cultures.
