Remarks

Special Instructions Submit one specimen per test requested. Specify the exact specimen source/origin (eg, genital lesion). Indicate a specific TEST NUMBER on the request form. Cause for Rejection: Bacterial swab specimen, specimen received in grossly leaking transport container, dry specimen, specimen submitted in fixative or additive, specimen received in expired transport media or incorrect transport device, specimen received in M4 RT VTM, inappropriate specimen transport conditions, specimen received after prolonged delay in transport (usually >72 hours), specimen stored or transported at room temperature, wooden shaft swab in transport device, calcium alginate swabs, unlabeled specimen or name discrepancy between specimen and request label.

Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.

Collection

Females and Males: Collect a vaginal or urethral specimen using an appropriately sized synthetic swab. Place swab in viral transport media (VTM). Refrigerate and ship to the laboratory at 2-8°C. • Semen/Urine/Biopsy/Tissue/CSF: Collect specimen in a sterile, leakproof container. Refrigerate and ship to the laboratory at 2-8°C.
