Test Overview

Genetic test to determine if twins are identical or fraternal.

Specimen Type

Buccal swabs or Whole Blood other samples such as amniotic fluid cultured cells and tissue specimens may be used

Volume

3 mL Whole blood or four buccal swabs, other tissue as available.

Specimen Container

Lavender-top (EDTA) tube or four buccal swabs in a sealed envelope (buccal swab kit). Amniotic fluid and tissues in appropriate transport container.

Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.
