Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.

Collection

Using a flocked swab and tongue depressor blade, roll the swab over the tonsillar area and posterior oropharynx, including any ulceration, exudate, lesion, or any area of apparent inflammation. Patient Preparation: Do not collect throat swab specimens immediately after patients have used antiseptic mouthwash.
