Test Overview

Apolipoprotein A (Apo A‑1) measurements are used as an aid in identifying patients at risk of developing atherosclerosis, and for the diagnosis of dyslipidemias. Apo A‑1 is the major protein constituent of high‑density lipoprotein (HDL) particles, which are produced in the intestine and the liver, and transport excess cellular cholesterol peripheral cells to the liver (reverse cholesterol transport), thereby reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.

Studies have shown that the Apo B / Apo A‑1 ratio (NRL order code 11251040) reflects the cholesterol balance between potentially atherogenic and anti-atherogenic lipoproteins, and predicts the risk of developing cardiovascular events, such as atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease and stroke.

Results are reported in SI Units: g/L
