Test Overview

Anti-smooth muscle antibodies (ASMA) detected by indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) support the diagnosis of Autoimmune Hepatitis, particularly type 1. ASMA testing aids differentiation from other causes of chronic liver injury and is interpreted alongside liver enzymes, antinuclear antibodies (ANA; NRL Code: 43008), IgG levels (NRL Code: 1103215) and clinical findings to guide diagnosis and patient management.
