Test Overview

Anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) detected by indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) are primarily used to support the diagnosis of Primary Biliary Cholangitis. High-titer AMA is highly specific for this autoimmune cholestatic liver disease and helps differentiate it from other causes of cholestasis, guiding further evaluation alongside liver enzymes, imaging, and additional autoimmune liver serology.
