AMA, Mitochondrial Antibodies
Up to 5 days
Indirect Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA)
Negative: <1:20
Please note that serum is the only acceptable sample type; any other sample type will be rejected.
Accredited NRL Laboratory
2 times per week
Anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) detected by indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) are primarily used to support the diagnosis of Primary Biliary Cholangitis. High-titer AMA is highly specific for this autoimmune cholestatic liver disease and helps differentiate it from other causes of cholestasis, guiding further evaluation alongside liver enzymes, imaging, and additional autoimmune liver serology.
Serum

Serum (SST; Gold Top or plain serum; Red Top)
No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.
