Test Overview

Uses FISH to detect chromosomal abnormalities associated with AML. Aids in diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment planning.

Specimen Type

Blood, Bone Marrow, fixed-cell pellet from a cytogenetic analysis or Slides prepared from a cytogenetic analysis

Volume

10 mL blood (adult), 3 to 5 mL blood (pediatric), 1 to 3 mL bone marrow, one tube fixed-cell pellet, or ten slides

Specimen Container

Green-top (heparin) tube, pediatric Vacutainer® is optimal or lavender-top (EDTA) tube

Patient Preparation

No special preparation is required for this test. You may eat, drink, and take your medications as normal, unless instructed otherwise by your healthcare provider.
