Dr. Saw received a PhD from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, in 2001, and a BEng Hons from the Malaysia University of Science, Malaysia, in 1998.

Dr. Saw has over a decade of experience in the field of HLA research and transplant immunology testing for kidney, heart, pancreas, liver and islet cell transplantation. He started his career as a postdoctoral researcher in Taiwan Bone Marrow Donor Registry, Taiwan, (2002-2005), before moving to Emory University Hospital, USA, during his fellowship (2006-2008). He was then Scientific Director at the National Platelet Reference Laboratory, Canada (2008-2011), before moving to his current role as HLA Laboratory Director at McGill University Health Centre, Canada (2012 – present). In 2017, Dr. Saw also joined National Reference Laboratory, UAE, as a HLA Consultant, where he established the NRL’s Center of Excellence for HLA testing.

Dr. Saw uses his extensive experience to advance the field of HLA. He is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Medicine, McGill University, Canada; an Accreditation Review Board Inspector for the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) and a member of ASHI’s Proficiency Testing Program Committee. Dr. Saw is also an affiliated member of various organizations including the iGeneTRAiN Consortium and the Centre of Excellence in Translational Immunology at the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies.

Dr. Saw is certified High Complexity Laboratory Director by American Board of Bioanalysis and accredited ASHI Director, and has authored a number of research publications and is an Abstract Reviewer for ASHI.
