Dr. Murthy has received his undergraduate degree in Biology, Postgraduate degree in Clinical Chemistry from the University of Mysore and Doctorate degree in Neurochemistry, faculty of The Mental Health and Neurosciences 1986 from the Bangalore University Karnataka, India.  He did two  Post-doctoral fellowships in US at the Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University, New York City, New York and at the Children National Medical Center, George Washington University, Washington DC.

He has obtained his Board Certification in Clinical Chemistry in 1996. Dr. Jay Murthy, PhD is a Diplomat of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and a Fellow of Academy of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Murthy was employed for 15 years as the Director of Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostic Services in the Department of Pathology, Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, a Care New England corporation health care facility and a major teaching affiliate of the Warren Alpert Medical School of the Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA.  He was responsible for both the technical and as an operational director for the divisions of Core Lab, Special Chemistry, Drug and Toxicology and Molecular Diagnostic laboratories (Molecular Microbiology/Molecular Pathology) for the institutional hospitals. He also held academic affiliation as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Alpert Brown Medical School. With his expertise in this fast growing cutting edge clinical laboratory field of Molecular Diagnostics and Liquid Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry, he has been recognized as a qualified section specialist inspector by the College of American Pathology (CAP) and participated in both national and international laboratory accreditation laboratory inspections.  Dr. Jay Murthy completed COMACC-accredited Medical/Research Fellowship at the Department of Laboratory Medicine National Institutes of Health, USA. And his fellowship was focused toward an advanced training in the area of Molecular Diagnostics and Clinical Mass Spectrophotometry.

During his tenure at MHRI, Dr. Murthy had initiated the task of establishing the Six Sigma Metrics in some of the laboratory testing devices which greatly enhanced and facilitated the laboratory’s aim of not only providing accurate patient results, but also an added value reflected in patient’s better clinical management such as safety and outcome.  He has authored or co-authored many peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, and a book chapter.  Dr. Jay Murthy has been active in the American Association for Clinical Chemistry and American College of Pathologists throughout his professional career and has collaborated extensively with leading industry partners as a focus group consultant in both in his field of expertise.  He holds many US State licenses including prestigious New York State Clinical laboratory Director Licensure in his fields of specialties.  He has also served as technical consultant to many prominent in vitro diagnostic device IVD industries.  Dr. Jay Murthy has joined National Reference Laboratory in 2016 as a Technical Director.
